I have made 8 of these granny squares so far but I'm not sure what to make with them ? Nothing else other than a cushion comes to my mind as I'm seeing sooper cute cushions almost everywhere. I don't know how to back the cushion with fabric. I don't want to back it with jumper as I won't be able to hold my cushion in the summer.

Does anyone of you have an idea how to back a granny square cushion with fabric ?

And these are the sooper cute granny square and other crocheted cushions I'm loving these days-

Great inspiration photos!  As for backing the pillows with fabric ... I'd make an all-fabric pillow case and then sew the granny-bit to the front.  That way the fabric is keeping the tension on the cushion and the grannies are just looking cute (not getting pulled out of shape).

That's a good idea. Shall I hand-sew the granny bit to the front ?

Here's the story of the Granny square.
Years ago when women knitted or crocheted most of their mittens, shawls and sweaters, every bit of yarn was precious, no matter how small.
When they had enough pieces they would crochet them together and make a square.
Squares can be made huge or small.  If you make small ones you can sew them together to make a blanket, if you make what is called exaggerated squares of many rows you can make a big blanket by just going round and round the square. Its lots of fun.
But I enjoy using all my scraps and I make blankets or afghans for friends and family.

Hi Sylvia, thanks for stopping by my blog.

Thank you for sharing the history of Granny Squares with us. I always feel very excited about knowing the history of crochet & knitting. It feels very nice to know what women were upto with their yarn & needles centuries back!
