I made myself a crocheted jacket!

December 5, 2011 Posted by shumaila Comments (1) Comments Feed

This jacket is one of those things which I thought to make instantly. I wasn't sure about which color I was going to choose but there were only a few colors available in the yarn I was going to replace for Lion Brand's Cotton Ease. I usually do not go for any shades of blue but this is the first thing I made myself in blue.

It's a quick pattern if you feel okay sewing the pieces together in the end. I didn't care about sewing the pieces initially but after completing this jacket I'm gonna choose only those patterns which are made in one piece or with minimal sewing. What actually made me mad were the "holes" along the seam lines where sleeves are joined. I wanted those "holes" and I couldn't figure out which sewing method produces such holes along the raglan sleeves. I started a forum thread over here on Ravelry to get the ideas. I got many valuable ideas about general sewing of sweater pieces together but no one could figure out how those holes are made. That was totally an ugh moment and at last I gave up on the holes and sewed the pieces by using a combination of backsitch seam + some nonsense sewing method of my own which I'm unable to explain.

The seams turned out okay but without the holes along the seam lines which are quite visible in the pattern picture. I would love to know if anyone of you can tell me what kind of sewing method can produce holes along the seam lines of such raglan sleeves. I will try to take a clear closeup shot of the seam line which can show you exactly how my seams turned out.

One of my friends has requested me to make a similar jacket for her and the little girl I'm teaching crochet is also going to make one for herself. So you are going to see couple of more essential jackets around!

P.S. I took all the photos above at the same time, in the same room and with the same light but each one has different hues & contrast levels. Ugh!

Colorful Carryall!

October 29, 2011 Posted by shumaila Comments (0) Comments Feed

I started this carryall bag somewhere around June and completed it last week. The bumps you see at the joins partly because I used different weights of yarn and partly because I couldn't handle the single crochet joins properly.

I found a matching fabric for the lining. It goes perfect with the bag. I hand stitched the lining to the bag which was not fun. Thanks to Alice for writing up such a wonderful tutorial for sewing the lining to the crocheted bag. I followed the same method for sewing lining to the pencil pouch I made a few months ago.

I crocheted the handles instead of attaching horseshoe-shaped handles.

I wish I could get rid of those bumpy joins other than that I love it and going to carry my colorful carryall!

Playing!

My Blankie... Ta-dah!!

April 23, 2011 Posted by shumaila Comments (3) Comments Feed

I did not have an idea how wonderful you feel after completing your first ever blanket in the Crochet World! I took way too much time to complete this afghan but thankfully the Summer got delayed in my part of the world and I got the chance to snuggle in my little blankie after completing it in the beginning of March.

I took so many photos while I was working on it but never posted here so I've sorted out just a few of them to share with you today.

I'm leaving you with these photos and will be back soon to show you the Wedding Gifts I'm working on for a friend.

Pattern: Southwest Passage Afghan from The Ultimate Book of Scrap Afghans

Freshly Crocheted Cupcake!

April 15, 2011 Posted by shumaila Comments (4) Comments Feed

Who says Cupcakes can only be baked ? Well cupcakes can also be crocheted and can help you baking your cupcakes! I fond this cute & lovely Cupcake Potholder pattern here on Hannah 's blog.

It can make a perfect gift for any baker so I got the idea of making it for a friend who is really into baking. The pattern does not mention how the pieces should be faced to whip-stitch together. The seam is almost invisible if you whip-stitch the sides by keeping the wrong sides together. But I figured this after I was done joining the pieces and joined them by keeping the right sides together so the seam is a bit visible.

It was quick to make and I had such a fun time making it. If you are feeling to make some potholders, crochet these cupcakes to help you baking some!

Slippers!

April 12, 2011 Posted by shumaila Comments (5) Comments Feed

I fell in love with these Mary Jane slippers in last October, started making them in November, completed them in February and started wearing them in March and sharing them with you in April... so you see its not easy for me to make slippers or as a matter of fact anything which I make for myself.

I used Bernat cotton yarn to make this pair. They are soft, cute and I love to wear them around. I gave them their first ride in a washing machine and they look all new once again. The pattern is lovely & easy to follow and I feel the author is so generous to offer such an amazing pattern for free.

I already have gift demands for these slippers so I hope to make some more pairs soon, inshaAllah.

These granny slippers I made in November and since this pair was a gift for an aunt it had to be completed in time. But this is a super quick & lovely pattern and I do hope to make a pair for myself too (yeah I still hope to make another pair of slippers for myself!). You can find the pattern here on The Royal Sisters

I'm working on some gifts these days and I hope to come back soon and share the latest projects with you.

Update: The slippers are no more soft after I've washed them. I guess Bernat Cotton Yarn gets really rough after washing.

Pleasure of making handmade Gifts

February 8, 2011 Posted by shumaila Comments (7) Comments Feed

I made this sweet bag for a very sweet little girl. She chose the yarn & color herself.

You can get the pattern here

A simple, quick & lovely pattern!

I was super excited to present it to her and she was super happy to recieve it!

The pleasure of making gifts with your own hands is simply out of this world and the look of gratitude you get on the faces of your loved ones cannot be explianed in words.
